Alphapointe Donates Thousands of Life-Saving Tourniquets & Medical Supplies to Ukraine Relief Effort

Alphapointe is donating thousands of life-saving tourniquets and medical supplies to Ukraine.

With more than 12 million people in need of assistance across Ukraine, Alphapointe was uniquely positioned to provide life-saving medical supplies to aid in the relief effort.

“In the face of this humanitarian crisis, Alphapointe wanted to provide assistance to the people of Ukraine,” said Alphapointe President and CEO Reinhard Mabry. “As the tragic events in Ukraine unfolded, we realized that the medical devices we manufacture could help save lives if we could get them in the hands of the people who desperately need medical assistance. We are grateful to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration for providing a path for us to make that happen.”

The donation came to fruition through an existing relationship between Alphapointe and representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA). Representatives of ITA shared a list of medical supplies being sought by the Embassy of Ukraine with Alphapointe and the list contained a number of items either manufactured by Alphapointe or items the organization previously had within its inventory.

Among the items being sent to Ukraine are 2,000 of Alphapointe’s innovative Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet (TMT). Created in collaboration and at the request of the U.S. Army, the patented TMT is designed to ensure ease of application, definitively control hemorrhage and eliminate the current tourniquet percentage of failure rates, while needing only minimal training to instantly treat life-threatening hemorrhage of an extremity.

TMTs are manufactured at Alphapointe’s Richmond Hill facility in Queens, N.Y., by team members who are blind. Since its development, more than 380,000 TMTs have entered service in U.S. branches of the military, directly supporting jobs for dozens of people who are blind.

In addition to the TMTs, Alphapointe also provided more than 2,500 individual items, including emergency bandages, compression bandages and other utensils.

Meest-America Inc. Ltd., a freight-delivery service specializing in shipping to Eastern European countries, has already shipped thousands of humanitarian items to the Ukraine and will ensure Alphapointe’s donation is delivered.
